New faces in new places
The offseason of any sports season is exhillarating, as we get to predict roles and see new faces in new places. As for this year's NFL offseason, it has already taken off with a boom-the LeSean McCoy trade. With so many big-time free agents this year, I will be anxiously waiting to see where everyone lands.
With that in mind, I will take a look at some running backs fantasy value that have, or will be, landing with a different teamthis season.
LeSean McCoy RB Buffalo Bills - Under new head coach Rex Ryan, LeSean McCoy will flourish in his new zip code, and rebound from his down year last season. Top 5 RB1
DeMarco Murray RB Philadelphia Eagles - The surprise of the day. DeMarco leaving for the rival team where he got the money he wanted. Under Chip Kelly, Murray will continue to get a workload similar to last year but you have to wonder how Ryan Mathews will fit into this whole situation. Top 10 RB1
Mark Ingram RB New Orleans Saints - Ingram resigning with the Saints after a breakout season is great. Can he be a RB1? I don't know but I would say he will stay as a safe RB2 in 2015. RB2
CJ Spiller RB Saints - The Saints have made some questionable moves this offseason, already getting rid of Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills. They try to add some explosiveness to the offense with this signing. CJ can be utilized as a good 3rd down back and receiving back, but don't see him as anything better than a RB3 with Mark Ingram still there as the workhorse.
Reggie Bush RB Destination: Saints / 49ers / Eagles? - With his injury history, I can't see Bush as anything better than an RB2. It would be exciting to see him with Chip Kelly or Kapernick. Low End RB2
Justin Forsett RB Baltimore Ravens - His breakout season was awesome, and with him resigning with the Ravens he might be able to continue the strong play. Don't expect him to have as good as a year though, strong RB2.
Ryan Mathews RB Philadelphia Eagels - Mathews health is always an issue, but Chip Kelly might be able to turn him into something good. What kind of role will he play? I am not sure, but with Murray in town and some upside in Kelly's offense, I think it's safe to say Mathews is a RB3.
Frank Gore RB Indianapolis Colts - Hard to see a RB his age with RB1 value. I think he will be a decent RB2, depending on his workload, of course. But I do think it's a better situation than last year. Move up! RB2
Shane Vereen RB New York Giants - Vereen is a passing down back and I don't know how they will use him, but I do like that he is out of Belichick's hands. I figure he will almost get the same role he had in New England. No more than an RB2.
Steven Ridley RB Destinations: Vikings? - Depending on what happens with Peterson, this could be a steal. I like Ridley outside of Belichick. He could be a low end RB1 or RB2/3 if Peterson returns. Who knows. Keep an eye on this situation.
Roy Helu RB Oakland Raiders - Helu will be used as a change of pace back and could be used in a "Theo Reddick" type of way . Can't see him doing anything more than that. Low end RB3
There is still a list of RB's on the market, but as of now, these are the most fantasy-relevant players. But in the NFL... you never know who can pop up next and be the guy.
